A Buckeye football star is set to be honored this fall by being inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame.
Former Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller announced on Thursday that he has been chosen for the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2024. The university’s athletic department has not yet revealed the other inductees.
Miller, who hails from Dayton, Ohio, and graduated from Wayne High School, was ranked as the No. 30 overall prospect and the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the 2011 class, according to 247Sports. He chose Ohio State over offers from Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame, USC, and several other schools.
At Ohio State, Miller quickly became one of the most exciting players in college football. As a freshman, he started 10 games, passing for 1,159 yards, 13 touchdowns, and four interceptions, while also rushing for 715 yards and seven touchdowns.
Over the next two seasons, Miller was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year twice. He threw for 4,133 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, and rushed for 2,339 yards and 25 touchdowns. In 2012, he led Ohio State to a perfect 12-0 season, though the team was barred from postseason play due to NCAA sanctions. In 2013, he guided the team to a 12-2 season.
In the last game of Ohio State’s 2013 season, Miller injured his shoulder in a 40-35 loss to Clemson in the Orange Bowl. After undergoing surgery, he later tore the labrum in the same shoulder during practice and took a medical redshirt for the 2014 season. Head coach Urban Meyer then turned to J.T. Barrett to lead the team. When Barrett broke his ankle that year, Cardale Jones stepped in and led Ohio State to victories over Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon, securing the national championship.
In Miller’s final season at Ohio State, he switched positions due to his shoulder issues and played as a wide receiver (H-back). Despite the change, he excelled, gaining 601 all-purpose yards and scoring four touchdowns, with an average of 8.8 yards per touch.
After his college career, Miller was selected by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft. During his two seasons with the Texans, he caught 34 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns.
