The Ohio State baseball team is headed to the postseason for the first time since 2019! The Buckeyes secured their spot on Friday night with an impressive 11-5 victory over Rutgers. This win marked their second triumph over the Scarlet Knights in as many days, as they also defeated Rutgers on Thursday evening with a 6-3 score.
The game on Friday saw Ohio State start strong, with Tyler Pettorini driving in the first run with a single. Rutgers quickly responded with a run in the second inning, but Ohio State retook the lead in the third inning when Trey Lispey scored. The Scarlet Knights tied the game in the bottom of the third and then pulled ahead with two more runs in the fourth inning.
However, the Buckeyes were just getting warmed up. Their bats came alive in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to take back the lead. Pettorini was a key player again, driving in two more runs with another single. Ohio State continued to dominate, adding four runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth for extra insurance.
This victory was Ohio State’s fifth win in their last six games, bringing their conference record to 12-11 and their overall season record to 28-23. With this win, the Buckeyes are now ranked seventh in the Big Ten Conference and have secured their spot in the conference tournament.
The Big Ten tournament will be held in Omaha, Nebraska, starting on Tuesday, May 21, and running through Saturday, May 26. The top eight teams in the conference will compete, and Ohio State is excited to be part of the action.
Before heading to the tournament, the Buckeyes have one more regular-season game left. They will face Rutgers once more in Piscataway, New Jersey, aiming to complete a three-game sweep. The final game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
Go Buckeyes! Let’s keep this winning momentum going into the postseason!
