Jacy Sheldon and JJ Tracy have been named Ohio State’s Athletes of the Year.
Ohio State honored its Associated Press All-American and ITA Indoor national champion as the school’s top athletes on Tuesday. This recognition puts Sheldon and Tracy in the running for Big Ten Athlete of the Year, to be announced later in June.
In her final season at Ohio State, Sheldon averaged 18.2 points per game, ranking third in the Big Ten behind Caitlin Clark (Iowa) and Mackenzie Holmes (Indiana). She also averaged 3.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game. The Buckeyes finished the season with a 25-5 overall record and a 16-2 conference record, winning the Big Ten championship.
Sheldon, a Dublin, Ohio native, scored 1,992 career points, making her No. 8 all-time at Ohio State. She ranks in the top 15 in ten other categories and is one of three Buckeyes to end their college careers with over 1,900 points, 400 rebounds, 350 assists, 200 steals, and 150 made 3-pointers.
Sheldon was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft and joined the Dallas Wings. In seven games with the Wings, she has averaged 2.7 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.4 steals in 13.5 minutes per game.
Tracy also had an outstanding final season at Ohio State. The Powell, Ohio native began the year by winning a doubles title with Robert Cash at the ITA All-American Championship and ended it by winning another doubles title with Cash at the NCAA Championship. Tracy helped lead the Buckeyes to their third ITA Indoor Team national championship, their 18th consecutive Big Ten championship, and their 16th Big Ten Tournament title.
Tracy had a combined record of 77-12 in doubles and singles competition in 2023-24. After the season, he was named a first-team All-Big Ten honoree and All-American, as well as the ITA Midwest Regional Senior Player of the Year. Tracy finished his Ohio State career with 235 career victories, the fifth-most in program history.
