Eric Boggs
Since Justin Haire took over as head coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes baseball team, the roster has seen significant changes. Haire replaced Bill Mosiello, who returned to TCU as an assistant coach, and several players have decided to leave the program via the transfer portal.
Departing Players
Matthew Graveline
Matthew Graveline, who was a standout freshman in 2023, is among those leaving. Graveline made the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and was an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete in 2023. As a freshman, he started 49 of 50 games, hitting .287 with four home runs, 35 RBIs, and 56 hits. In 2024, he continued his strong performance with a .281 average, five home runs, 25 RBIs, and another 56 hits. Graveline has not yet announced his new team for the upcoming season.
Landon Beidelschies
Landon Beidelschies, the Buckeyes’ Friday starter this past spring, is transferring to Arkansas. Beidelschies posted a 6-7 record with a 4.15 ERA. He struck out 91 batters and walked just 31 over 84⅔ innings, holding opponents to a .231 batting average.
Henry Kaczmar
Henry Kaczmar, who started all 55 games for Ohio State this season, is also leaving. Kaczmar led the team with a .320 batting average and finished with 36 RBIs. An All-Big Ten Scholar-Athlete and Big Ten All-Freshman Team honoree in 2023, Kaczmar has not announced where he will play next season.
Gavin DeVooght
Gavin DeVooght, one of the Buckeyes’ top relievers in 2024, is transferring to the University of Michigan. DeVooght appeared in 18 games, pitching 44.1 innings with a 2-3 record and a 5.08 ERA. The Walled Lake, Michigan native will be returning home to play for the Wolverines next season.
New Addition
Despite these departures, Coach Haire has secured a new addition to the team. Sophomore Chris Domke is transferring from Youngstown State to join the Buckeyes. As a freshman in 2024, Domke made 22 appearances out of the bullpen, finishing with a 3-2 record, five saves, and a 9.00 ERA in 24 innings pitched. He struck out 25 batters while walking 21, with opponents batting .293 against him.
In high school, Domke played for North Royalton High School, where he posted a 2.36 ERA, 45 strikeouts, and a .153 opponent batting average in 35.1 innings in 2022. He was named Second-Team All-Suburban League and honorable mention all-district.
Looking Ahead
The Ohio State Buckeyes are undergoing significant changes under Justin Haire’s leadership. While losing key players like Graveline, Beidelschies, Kaczmar, and DeVooght, the addition of Domke brings new hope for the team’s bullpen. The coming season will be a test of the new coach’s ability to rebuild and lead the team to success.
