So, it’s official – Sherrone Moore is Michigan’s head coach. Yep, the Wolverines made it clear back in January, but apparently, Moore hadn’t signed the dotted line until now. Guess it took a bit longer than expected to iron things out. After a few weeks of chit-chat between Moore and Michigan’s athletic director Warde Manuel, they finally got the paperwork done. You know, because at Michigan, they like to take their time… on and off the field.
“We’re excited to announce that Sherrone Moore has officially signed his contract,” Michigan’s athletic department said. Meanwhile, Ohio State fans everywhere collectively rolled their eyes. “Proven leader,” “great ambassador” — sure, if “proven leader” means losing to Texas at home by 19 points. But hey, who’s counting?
Moore seems pretty pumped about the whole thing too. “I’m thrilled to have this contract finished up,” he said, probably while erasing a few more text messages (oops, too soon?). He mentioned he’s focused on developing his players “mentally, physically, and spiritually.” Yeah, good luck with that. Maybe they should start by figuring out how to score against top-tier teams, then they can work on the spiritual side.
Speaking of spiritual awakenings, the timing of Moore’s official contract couldn’t have been better. Michigan just took a 31-12 beating from Texas in Ann Arbor. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s the little issue of Michigan’s “advanced-scouting program.” Apparently, Moore might be in hot water for deleting some text messages with none other than Connor Stalions – Michigan’s sign-stealing mastermind. Now, we’re not saying Michigan had a sophisticated scheme going on, but when you’re deleting 52 text messages in one day, it sure doesn’t look good.
Moore insists Michigan is “cooperating with the NCAA fully” and can’t wait for those messages to be released. We’re sure it’ll be riveting stuff. As it stands, Michigan has until late November to respond to the NCAA’s Notice of Allegations, and we’re all waiting to see how this shakes out. Could make for some interesting Thanksgiving conversation, right?
Anyway, here’s hoping the Wolverines can handle more than just paperwork when they face Ohio State. We’re ready, are they?
