On Monday, the Ohio State Buckeyes secured a commitment from Dorian Jones, a four-star shooting guard. Jones is the first high school senior to commit to the Buckeyes this year. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he is the No. 72 overall prospect and the No. 12 shooting guard. He is also ranked as the second-best player in Ohio. Jones chose Ohio State over Michigan, Rutgers, and Missouri.
As a junior in the 2023-24 season, Jones was named to the first-team All-Ohio in Division IV. He led Richmond Heights, his high school in Cleveland, to a state championship and averaged 14.1 points per game.
Ohio State was one of the first schools to offer Jones a scholarship, and he visited their campus in Columbus in May. In total, he received over twenty scholarship offers, including ones from Arizona State, Cincinnati, Dayton, Miami (Fla.), Penn State, and Texas A&M.
This summer, Jones played for the team All-Ohio Red in Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League, where he averaged 7.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. His commitment is the first for coach Jake Diebler in the class of 2025. The Buckeyes also have a commitment from five-star guard Marcus Johnson from the class of 2026, who is from Cleveland’s Garfield Heights High School.
The Buckeyes hope Jones’s commitment will start a trend of Ohio-based talent joining their team for the 2025 class. They are also targeting five-star guard Darryn Peterson, four-star guard Jerry Easter II, and five-star power forward Niko Bundalo, who is the No. 1 player in Ohio.
