Next month, college football fans—especially those of us who bleed Scarlet and Gray—will finally hear from Connor Stalions.
On Monday, Netflix announced that Stalions, the former Michigan football staffer who turned sign-stealing into his own personal art form, will be the star of a new documentary titled “Sign Stealer,” premiering on Aug. 27. (Get your popcorn ready, Buckeye Nation!)
In the second of three UNTOLD episodes, Stalions “shares his side of Michigan’s alleged sign-stealing scheme that turned him into a viral villain,” Netflix revealed. This scandal kicked off last October when accusations flew that the Wolverines were engaged in some not-so-friendly advanced scouting. Between 2021 and 2023, Stalions allegedly sent a network of associates to future opponents’ games, instructing them to videotape the opponent’s sideline in a covert operation to decode signals. During this time, Michigan somehow managed a 40-3 record, three Big Ten titles, and a College Football Playoff national championship. Coincidence? We think not.
Since his resignation last November, Stalions has kept a low profile. His only comment on the scandal came through his attorney, attempting to clear then-Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff of any wrongdoing.
“To his knowledge, coach Harbaugh nor any other coach or staff member told anyone to break any rules or were aware of improper conduct,” the attorney wrote in a letter. (Sure, and I’ve got a bridge in Ann Arbor to sell you!)
Harbaugh, then-offensive coordinator and current head coach Sherrone Moore, and then-defensive coordinator Jesse Minter have all denied knowing anything about the scheme. However, linebackers coach Chris Partridge was fired last November as part of the investigation. Looks like someone had to take the fall!
So, mark your calendars for Aug. 27, Buckeye fans. This is one documentary you won’t want to miss!
