The No. 16 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team put up a strong fight on Friday night but ultimately fell short against No. 19 Michigan at the Crisler Center, finishing with a final score of 196.600-196.025.
Despite the loss, the Buckeyes delivered standout performances, led by redshirt junior Tory Vetter, who claimed the all-around title with a combined score of 39.325. Vetter also secured an individual event title on vault with a 9.850, further demonstrating her leadership and consistency. She added another podium finish on floor, tying for second with a team-high 9.900.
Freshman JJ Coleman continued her impressive debut season, earning her second career event title on vault. She tied Vetter and Michigan’s Jenna Milligan with a 9.850, helping the Buckeyes dominate the event with a team score of 49.000—two-tenths ahead of the Wolverines. The vault rotation was highlighted by solid routines from Cameron Smith (9.825), Sidney Washington (9.775), and Kaitlyn Grimes (9.700). Freshman Kerrington Baham also made her collegiate debut on the apparatus.
On the uneven bars, Samara Buchanan led the way for Ohio State with a career-high 9.825. Kate Parks also achieved a personal best, posting a 9.775. The Buckeyes continued to build momentum on beam, with Rylee Guevara and Smith each scoring 9.825, while Maisyn Rader matched her career-high on floor with a 9.800 and notched a season-best 9.825 on bars.
Ohio State led after the first two rotations, showing grit and precision, but Michigan capitalized in the latter half of the meet to edge out the victory. The Buckeyes’ strong performances across all four events proved they are a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten.

What’s Next for the Buckeyes
Ohio State continues its Big Ten road trip with a crucial matchup against Illinois on Feb. 7 at Huff Hall. The Buckeyes will then return home for an exciting stretch of competitions, including a dual meet against Minnesota (Feb. 16), the Big Four meet against Nebraska, Rutgers, and UCLA (March 2), and a tri-meet with Kent State and West Virginia (March 16).
With plenty of season left, the Buckeyes are poised to build on their performances and make a strong push in the Big Ten standings.
