Ohio State’s pursuit of top offensive line talent in the 2025 recruiting cycle has seen its share of ups and downs. Recently, four-star Georgia offensive tackle Josh Petty chose to stay closer to home, committing to Georgia Tech. The Buckeyes, who had been in the mix alongside Florida State, made a strong late push after Petty’s official visit on June 14, but it wasn’t enough to sway him from the Yellow Jackets.
With Petty off the board, Ohio State’s attention has shifted to securing a commitment from the top-ranked offensive tackle in the 2025 class, David Sanders Jr. The Buckeyes currently have two offensive linemen committed—Carter Lowe and Jake Cook—but the need for an elite talent like Sanders has never been more pressing.
Sanders is scheduled to make his commitment this Saturday at 12:30 p.m., although the announcement might come closer to 1:15 p.m. Ohio State is in a fierce battle with Tennessee for Sanders’ pledge, and while Georgia and Nebraska are also finalists, the general consensus is that it’s a two-horse race between the Buckeyes and the Volunteers.
In recent weeks, momentum has appeared to swing in Tennessee’s favor, with several recruiting insiders predicting Sanders will choose the Vols. However, sources close to the Ohio State program remain optimistic, believing the Buckeyes are still firmly in the race. As it stands, the odds might slightly favor Tennessee at 55%, with Ohio State holding a solid 45% chance to land their top remaining target.
Saturday will be a pivotal day for Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting class. A commitment from Sanders would solidify the Buckeyes’ offensive line for the future and bolster their standing in national recruiting rankings. If Ohio State falls short, however, it will be back to the drawing board as most of the other top offensive line prospects have already committed elsewhere. The outcome of Sanders’ decision will undoubtedly shape the trajectory of Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting efforts.
