The No. 16 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team kicked off its 2024 season with a strong performance Saturday evening at the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad in Oklahoma City, Okla. Competing at the Paycom Center against a stacked field, the Buckeyes finished third with a score of 196.425.

The No. 10 UCLA Bruins took home the victory with a commanding 197.550, followed by No. 7 Kentucky at 196.500. No. 8 Arkansas rounded out the competition, placing fourth with a 195.875.

A standout performance came from redshirt junior Tory Vetter, who tied for the all-around title with Arkansas’ Joscelyn Roberson. The Hilliard, Ohio native showcased her consistency across all four events, earning a 9.900 on vault, a 9.875 on floor, and 9.850s on both uneven bars and beam. Vetter’s impressive efforts underscored her role as a key leader for the Buckeyes this season.

The Buckeyes posted 11 routines that finished among the top 10 scores on their respective apparatuses. Vetter’s performances on vault (9.900) and uneven bars (9.850) tied for fifth overall in their respective events. Senior Courtney McCann also shined on beam, earning a 9.875 to tie for fifth place.

Freshman Rylee Guevara made a memorable debut, recording a 9.900 on floor in her first collegiate routine—the team’s first 9.900 of the season. Guevara also delivered strong performances on vault (9.875) and beam (9.525).

Ohio State’s best event of the night was vault, where the team posted a 49.300. Vetter’s 9.900 led the way, followed closely by Guevara’s 9.875 and strong performances from Cameron Smith and Kaitlyn Grimes, who each scored 9.850. Sidney Washington’s 9.825 rounded out the rotation as the Buckeyes showcased their depth and talent in the event.

Four Buckeyes made their debuts Saturday, with each contributing to the team’s success. In addition to Guevara, JJ Coleman competed on vault and floor, Kate Parks participated on uneven bars, and Cameron Smith delivered solid routines on vault and beam. Their performances signal a promising future for Ohio State gymnastics.

The Buckeyes return to Columbus for their home opener on Saturday, Jan. 18, against Big Ten rival Iowa at the Covelli Center. With momentum from a solid season debut and an impressive showing from both veterans and newcomers, Ohio State looks poised to make a strong statement in front of its home crowd.
