Four-star cornerback Blake Woodby from Maryland decided to decommit from OSU on Thursday. This leaves the Buckeyes with 12 commitments in the class, including two other cornerbacks.
According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Woodby is the 66th-best overall prospect and the No. 7 cornerback in the 2025 class.
Woodby’s decommitment isn’t too surprising because the Buckeyes already have commitments from the No. 1 and No. 2 cornerbacks in the 2025 class, Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord. This might actually help OSU in attracting five-star cornerback Dorian Brew, an Ohio native who is still exploring his options. If the Buckeyes can secure Brew’s commitment this summer, they would have the No. 1, 2, and 4 ranked cornerbacks in the class.
Woodby was the first cornerback to commit to the Buckeyes for the 2025 class, giving his verbal commitment on October 14. He chose Ohio State over other top programs like Oregon, Alabama, Clemson, and Tennessee.
Now, Woodby is reopening his recruitment to consider other schools.
Ohio State offered him a spot on December 12, 2022, and at the time, Woodby seemed excited about the possibility of becoming a Buckeye.
“I was a big Miami fan when I was younger, but as I started to understand football and the position I wanted to play, I realized Ohio State is DBU. I want to play at the next level, and I want to watch the next level. I wanted to watch the best and they produce the best. Just growing up watching Ohio State and seeing all the guys they produce in the league as far as cornerbacks go, it’s just an ultimate level I want to reach one day. It means the world.”
