Ohio State’s dominance on the recruiting trail continued Sunday as the Buckeyes secured two major in-state commitments for their 2027 recruiting class. Four-star offensive tackle Kellen Wymer of Liberty Center and three-star lineman Mason Wilt of St. Clairsville both announced their decisions to join the Buckeyes within minutes of each other, capping off a weekend that showcased the strength of Ohio State’s in-state recruiting momentum.

Wymer’s commitment came just a day after his visit to Columbus for the Buckeyes’ 38–14 victory over Penn State and only two days after receiving an offer from Michigan—the school he grew up cheering for. Despite that long-standing fandom, Wymer couldn’t resist the pull of Ohio State once he experienced the program’s energy firsthand. “In all honesty, I grew up a Michigan fan,” Wymer told 247Sports earlier this year. “But after going to Ohio State and listening to their video before camp, I got chills. In that moment, I knew I could see myself playing here and being a Buckeye.”

Ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect in Ohio and No. 216 nationally in the 2027 class, Wymer chose the Buckeyes over a host of national powers including Auburn, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-6 left tackle has been the anchor of Liberty Center’s offensive line, helping guide the Tigers to an undefeated regular season and the top seed in the OHSAA Division V playoffs. His blend of size, athleticism, and technical polish makes him one of the most promising young linemen in the Midwest.

Just six minutes after Wymer made his announcement, St. Clairsville standout Mason Wilt followed suit, giving Ohio State its fifth overall commit for the 2027 class. Wilt, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound lineman, projects as an interior offensive lineman at the college level despite playing left tackle in high school. Ranked as the No. 15 player in Ohio and the No. 27 interior lineman nationally, Wilt held offers from programs such as Florida State, North Carolina, Penn State, and Duke before choosing the Buckeyes.

Wilt’s connection to the program runs deep—he comes from the same high school that produced former Ohio State offensive tackle Avery Henry. Known for his toughness and aggressive playing style, Wilt has impressed coaches with his mobility and tenacity in the trenches. While his technique will continue to develop under offensive line coach Tyler Bowen, his physical tools and mentality fit perfectly into Ohio State’s long-term plans for building depth up front.

Bowen’s efforts on the recruiting trail continue to pay dividends. After assembling strong 2025 and 2026 classes, the Buckeyes’ offensive line coach has now added two more promising Ohio prospects for 2027, showing his ability to identify and secure talent early in the process.

With Wymer and Wilt joining wide receiver Jamier Brown, quarterback Brady Edmunds, and safety Angelo Smith, Ohio State’s 2027 class now features a strong mix of offensive and defensive talent. More importantly, both linemen represent the Buckeyes’ ongoing commitment to keeping elite in-state prospects home—a tradition that continues to be the backbone of Ohio State’s recruiting philosophy.

For head coach Ryan Day and his staff, the future up front just got a lot brighter.
