The OHIO Podcast is growing, and today we’re thrilled to introduce the newest member of our team—Nate Schmidt, better known to many of you as Knoxville Nate. If you’ve followed our content for any length of time, you already know Nate brings passion, insight, and an infectious love for Ohio State football. Now, he’s officially joining The OHIO Podcast family as a co-host and our primary film-analysis expert, with an expanded presence on our Patreon channel.
Nate’s football story started early—about as early as it can. Growing up in a sports-loving family, he fell in love with college football before he even hit kindergarten. While other kids taped posters of superheroes to their walls, Nate was cutting out Sports Illustrated photos of his favorite players and meticulously organizing them into homemade All-American teams. That early obsession would eventually lead him onto the field himself.
Originally from Ohio with deep family roots in the Mansfield area, Nate moved to Tennessee as a child but ultimately returned home to play college football at Ohio Wesleyan University. His time there not only cemented his Buckeye fandom but also connected him to a number of players during the early-2000s era. After his playing career, he shifted into coaching and later transitioned into the sports technology world, selling coach-to-player headset systems, scouting software, and video editing tools to programs across the country. That behind-the-scenes experience gave him a rare level of insight into the analytics and “why” behind the game.

It’s this combination of playing experience, coaching knowledge, and analytical expertise that makes Nate such an incredible fit for what we want to bring to our community. His understanding of scheme, film breakdown, and player development is second to none—and now he’s bringing that knowledge directly to you.
As part of The OHIO Podcast, Nate will serve as a co-host on group shows, roundtables, and special panels. But his biggest role will be on Patreon, where he will have complete creative freedom to break down Buckeye film however he sees fit. Whether it’s a single play, an entire half, a concept study, or collaborative analysis with other guests, Nate is stepping in to provide the kind of deep-dive football education our community has been hungry for. And we couldn’t be more excited to give him the platform to do just that.
But that’s not all—Nate brings personality, perspective, and a lifelong Buckeye spirit. His favorite Buckeye of all time? Mike Doss. His favorite team? The 2002 National Champions. His favorite moment? The legendary 2006 No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown in Columbus—where he was in attendance and celebrated on the field afterward. From cherished memories to honest takes on heartbreaks like the 2004 Texas game, Nate brings the kind of authenticity fans connect with immediately.

Off the field, he’s also an avid memorabilia collector, owning pieces like a game-worn Darron Lee Sugar Bowl jersey—his most prized Buckeye collectible. And yes, he has even held a real Mickey Mantle rookie card, a moment that would tempt any collector to walk briskly toward the exit.
We are truly excited to add someone who not only understands the game at a high level but loves the Buckeyes with the same intensity you all do. Nate is ready to help us grow our Patreon community—what we’ve started calling the 1000 Club—and to elevate the kind of content we bring you.
Please join us in welcoming Knoxville Nate to The OHIO Podcast. Show him some love, keep an eye out for his upcoming film breakdowns, and get ready to learn the game in ways you never have before.
