The Ohio State Buckeyes are gearing up for a significant run at the national title, but former Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy recently took a dig at them. The historic rivalry between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines is one of the most celebrated in sports, and McCarthy, now with the Minnesota Vikings, played a pivotal role in it.
During his three seasons at Michigan, McCarthy saw the Wolverines achieve a 3-0 record against the Buckeyes, including a personal 2-0 record as a starter. Before his tenure, Ohio State had enjoyed eight consecutive victories over Michigan, making McCarthy’s statement sting a little more for Buckeye Nation.
Recently, McCarthy, who led Michigan to a national championship last season, took to Instagram to highlight his success against Ohio State. He boasted, “100% of Ohio State’s roster has never beaten Michigan.”
As Ohio State enters the 2024 season, they are widely regarded as having one of the most talented rosters in college football. This year, they are determined to break their losing streak against Michigan. The Wolverines have not only lost McCarthy but also several key players from their championship team, and head coach Jim Harbaugh has moved on to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Buckeyes are aiming for their first national championship in a decade, and this season’s team may be their strongest yet. Ohio State fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to reclaim victory over Michigan when they host the Wolverines in Columbus on November 30.
In McCarthy’s last game against Ohio State, he completed 72.3% of his passes, throwing for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns, and only four interceptions in the 2023 season. His performance included going 16-for-20 with 148 yards and a touchdown in Michigan’s most recent win over the Buckeyes.
Ohio State supporters are confident that this year’s team has the potential to end the losing streak against Michigan and make a serious bid for the national championship.
