The Fields family may soon have divided loyalties, as Jessica Fields, the younger sister of former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, has committed to play for the Michigan Wolverines’ women’s basketball program. A standout 6’1″ senior at Mount Paran Christian School in Kennesaw, Georgia, Jessica Fields chose Michigan over Georgetown and Northwestern. Notably, Ohio State did not extend a scholarship offer to her.

Jessica’s decision marks a significant moment in the Fields family, known for its strong connection to Ohio State through Justin. Justin, who played two seasons for the Buckeyes after transferring from Georgia, earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honors in both 2019 and 2020. During his time at Ohio State, he led the Buckeyes to a dominant 56-27 victory over Michigan, and he has never shied away from expressing his rivalry-fueled disdain for the Wolverines. Now, with Jessica headed to Ann Arbor, the Fields family could see some friendly banter during Ohio State vs. Michigan week.

Jessica’s recruitment process was lengthy, beginning as early as eighth grade, and she expressed relief at finally making her decision. “I was ready to wrap up my recruitment process,” she told Talia Goodman of On3. “It’s been a very long process, but it was fun being the one recruited instead of just the little sibling running around.”

Her choice of Michigan was influenced by her connection with Coach Justine Raterman, who initially recruited Jessica while at Marquette before moving to Michigan. Jessica spoke highly of the Wolverines’ academic offerings, the team dynamics, and the culture she experienced during her visits. “Michigan was great,” she said. “The girls were super nice, and we had a little game night, so I got a good feel of the team dynamics and the culture.”

A four-star recruit and one of the top rebounders in women’s basketball, Jessica Fields is poised to make her mark in a power conference. While Ohio State fans may find it unusual to see a Fields in maize and blue, there’s no doubt that Jessica will shine in Ann Arbor. As Michigan aims to build on its 20-14 record from last season and improve upon their first-round exit in the NCAA Tournament, Jessica could become a key player for the Wolverines and a fan favorite in Ann Arbor.
