Ohio State has officially reached its ideal quarterback roster size for the 2025 season. Head coach Ryan Day has consistently emphasized his desire to have four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster each year, and with the addition of graduate transfer Eli Brickhandler from Houston Christian, that vision is now a reality.
Brickhandler, who announced his commitment to the Buckeyes on May 20, brings valuable experience to a young and talented quarterback room that includes Lincoln Kienholz, Julian Sayin, and Tavien St. Clair. His arrival gives Ohio State a more balanced mix of veteran presence and developing talent at the position, aligning with Coach Day’s long-stated roster strategy.

Originally from Stockton, California, Brickhandler began his collegiate career at North Carolina A&T before transferring to Houston Christian. While with the Huskies in 2024, he split time at quarterback with Cutter Stewart. Brickhandler appeared in eight games, completing 38-of-77 passes (49.4%) for 557 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also made a notable impact as a dual-threat quarterback, rushing for 264 yards and four touchdowns on 63 carries, including a standout 138-yard performance on the ground against McNeese.
Though unranked as a high school prospect from AHOP Christian Leadership Academy in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Brickhandler has steadily worked his way up through college football. His addition to the Buckeye roster not only provides needed depth but also infuses the quarterback room with maturity and mobility.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Brickhandler will play a key supporting role in one of the nation’s most competitive quarterback environments. His experience and versatility offer security and flexibility for the Buckeyes as they pursue championship aspirations in 2025 and beyond.
