Ohio State fans have more than just football to look forward to at Wrigley Field this year. The Big Ten announced that both the Ohio State men’s and women’s hockey teams will take the ice at the historic ballpark this January as part of “The Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series.”
The men’s team is set to face off against rival Michigan on January 3, 2025, in what promises to be an intense showdown. The following day, the defending national champion women’s hockey team will challenge Wisconsin in a high-stakes rematch of the last two national title games. These games are part of a four-game outdoor series that also includes matchups between Penn State and Notre Dame on January 3, and Wisconsin and Michigan State on January 4.
This will be the second outdoor game for Ohio State women’s hockey, who previously played Minnesota outdoors in 2020. For the men’s team, it will be their fifth outdoor game in recent years, with the most recent being their 4-2 victory over Michigan at Cleveland’s FirstEnergy Stadium in February 2023.
The Frozen Confines series is a significant event, with Big Ten Network broadcasting all four games live. Ohio State’s involvement underscores the program’s prominence in college hockey, and these matchups offer fans another opportunity to see their teams shine on a big stage.
The weekend will follow the Discover NHL Winter Classic® between the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks, which takes place at Wrigley Field on December 31, 2024.
In addition to these exciting hockey matchups, Ohio State football will also make an appearance at Wrigley Field this year, taking on Northwestern on November 16. It’s an exciting time to be a Buckeye, with Wrigley Field serving as a historic backdrop for multiple Ohio State victories.
Tickets for The Frozen Confines will be available to the general public starting Friday, August 30, at 10 a.m. CT on Cubs.com/BigTenHockey.
