The No. 2 Ohio State women’s ice hockey team lit up the rink this past weekend, showcasing their skill and depth with back-to-back victories in the 2024 Women’s Ice Breaker Tournament. Buckeye fans had plenty to cheer about at the Schottenstein Center as Ohio State dominated Stonehill 11-0 on Friday, then took down No. 11/12 Cornell 7-3 on Saturday to claim the tournament title.

Friday’s Showdown: Buckeyes Blank Stonehill

Ohio State opened the tournament in electrifying fashion with an 11-0 shutout over Stonehill. Eight Buckeyes found the back of the net, with Sloane Matthews, Joy Dunne, and Josie St. Martin leading the way in the first period. St. Martin delivered a stellar performance, scoring two goals, including a slick five-hole shot, and setting up two others. Jocelyn Amos and Emma Peschel kept the momentum going, each adding their names to the scoreboard. By the final horn, the Buckeyes had fired off a jaw-dropping 72 shots on goal, while goaltender Lexington Secreto secured her first Buckeye shutout, fending off all nine Stonehill shots, including a crucial penalty shot in the third.

Championship Game: Buckeyes Best Cornell

In Saturday’s championship clash, Ohio State carried its momentum into a 7-3 win over Cornell. The Buckeyes quickly took control, with Matthews netting the first goal just three minutes in and Kiara Zanon adding another later in the period. Cornell threatened with a few timely goals but couldn’t keep pace. Amos, a key force throughout the weekend, scored twice, including a short-handed goal with just seconds left in the second period. In the third, Brooke Disher and Amos scored again to put the game out of reach and secure the Ice Breaker title for Ohio State.
