In the highly competitive world of college football recruiting, the Ohio State Buckeyes managed to assemble an impressive 2024 class, despite finishing with fewer recruits than some of their counterparts. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Ohio State’s recruiting class was ranked fifth overall. Georgia claimed the top spot, followed by Alabama, Oregon, and Miami. However, a closer look reveals that the Buckeyes’ class might be even more formidable than its numerical ranking suggests.

One notable aspect that affected the rankings was the size of each program’s recruiting class. Ohio State closed the cycle with only 22 recruits, while the four teams ahead of them all brought in 27 or 28 players. This discrepancy in numbers can skew the rankings, creating an illusion that Ohio State’s class is not as strong. When evaluating the quality of recruits on an individual basis, the Buckeyes shine.

In terms of average ranking per recruit, Ohio State emerges as a powerhouse. The Buckeyes secured the third position with an impressive average ranking of 92.8 per recruit. Alabama narrowly edged ahead with a rating of 93.12, while Georgia claimed the top spot with a stellar average of 93.61 per recruit. This statistic highlights the fact that Ohio State was able to secure high-quality players, showcasing the coaching staff’s ability to identify and recruit top talent.

The Buckeyes’ 2024 class boasts an impressive mix of talent, featuring four five-star recruits and 14 four-star recruits. Among the recruits, eight hailed from the state of Ohio, emphasizing the program’s commitment to nurturing local talent. The jewel in Ohio State’s recruiting crown is wide receiver Jeremiah Smith from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida. Smith holds the prestigious title of the nation’s overall number one recruit, bringing a wealth of talent and potential to the Buckeyes’ offense.
