The 18th-ranked Ohio State women’s gymnastics team faced a competitive Big Ten matchup against Illinois on Friday night at Huff Hall, ultimately coming up short with a final score of 195.475 to Illinois’ 196.150. Despite the result, the Buckeyes showcased their talent and resilience, particularly on floor, where they delivered a season-best performance.

In the third rotation, Ohio State dominated the floor exercise, posting an impressive 49.425—their highest score on any event this season—to claim the event title for the second time. Leading the charge was Tory Vetter, who delivered a career-best 9.950 to secure the individual event title. Rylee Guevara followed closely behind with a personal-best 9.925, earning second place. The Buckeyes also benefited from strong contributions, including a career-high-tying 9.875 from JJ Coleman, a season-best 9.850 from Sidney Washington, and a solid 9.825 from Kaitlyn Grimes.

Vetter’s outstanding 9.950 on floor stands as the highest score by any Buckeye on any apparatus this season. Meanwhile, Guevara, in just her first season with Ohio State, continues to impress, having now recorded a 9.900 or higher on floor in four of five meets this year.

Capping off her stellar night, Vetter claimed the all-around title with a cumulative score of 39.425, marking her third all-around victory this season. Her consistency and leadership continue to be a driving force for the Buckeyes as they progress through the season.

Looking ahead, Ohio State returns home for a highly anticipated stretch of competitions at Covelli Center. The Buckeyes will host Minnesota on Feb. 16, followed by the Big Four meet against Nebraska, Rutgers, and UCLA on March 2. They will then welcome Kent State, Pitt, and West Virginia for a quad meet on March 16. Fans can secure tickets now to support the Buckeyes as they push for postseason success.
