Ohio State left-handed pitcher Gavin Bruni was chosen by the Washington Nationals in the 17th round of the 2024 MLB Draft, with the 500th overall pick.

Bruni, from Alliance, Ohio, is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 205 pounds. He had a tough junior season at Ohio State in 2024 due to injuries. He ended the season with a 3-3 record and a 6.19 ERA. In 52.1 innings, he allowed 45 hits and 42 walks but struck out 54 batters.

Bruni is the only Ohio State player selected in the 2024 draft. The Nationals picked him in the 17th round.

In his junior season, Bruni went 4-3 with a 5.81 ERA in 14 games, starting 13 of them. He struck out 60 batters in 57.1 innings. Over his career with the Buckeyes, he has a 9-6 record and a 5.57 ERA in 36 games.

Bruni was Ohio’s top high school prospect in 2021 at Alliance High School.
