The Buckeye spirit was on full display once again as the 2025 Buckeye Cruise for Cancer successfully raised an incredible $4.5 million for cancer research at Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. With this year’s contributions, the event has now generated an astounding $45 million over its 18-year history, reaffirming its impact in the fight against cancer.
A hallmark of the Buckeye Cruise is the unwavering support of the Ohio State football family, and this year was no exception. Head coach Ryan Day, along with his family, joined the voyage, as did Ohio State General Manager Mark Pantoni and several current Buckeye players, including safety Caleb Downs, offensive linemen Carson Hinzman and Tegra Tshabola, quarterback Lincoln Kienholz, defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr., and cornerbacks Davison Igbinosun and Lorenzo Styles Jr.

The cruise also welcomed an impressive group of former Buckeye greats, such as All-Americans Paris Johnson Jr. and A.J. Hawk, Super Bowl champion Parris Campbell, and cancer survivor Avery Henry, among many others.
One of the highlights of this year’s event was a special recognition for Archie Griffin, the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner in college football history. Griffin, a legendary figure in Ohio State history, was honored on the cruise for his lasting contributions to the Buckeye community and his commitment to philanthropy. His presence served as a reminder of the enduring legacy of Ohio State football and its role in making a difference beyond the field.
Coach Ryan Day spoke to 10TV’s Dom Tiberi about the significance of the event and the remarkable generosity of those who contribute year after year.
“The thing that blows my mind is just the generosity,” Day said. “The folks that are on this ship and have been a part of this for a long time—it’s just how much they care about the James and giving back. I don’t think I’ve ever talked to anybody who’s been on this that doesn’t think it’s just an amazing thing. That’s why you see so many people come year in and year out. It’s like a family here, and a lot of great friendships.”
With each passing year, the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer continues to make a profound difference in cancer research while strengthening the Buckeye community. As Buckeye Nation knows all too well, when we come together for a cause, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.
